As of the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he jointly holds the record (along with Nick Heidfeld) for the most podiums without a win (13).

Lewis Hamilton is a British racing driver who has won seven Formula One World Championships. Hamilton ended the 2023 championship in third place with him not winning a race for the second successive year.Hamilton achieved all his 103 victories in cars powered by a Mercedes engine. He took 21 victories racing for McLaren and the remaining 82 at Mercedes. Hamilton has been most successful at the Hungaroring and the Silverstone Circuit, where he has won eight times each, sharing the record with Schumacher for the most victories at the same race track and the same Grand Prix, the British and Hungarian Grands Prix. He also holds the record for winning the most different Grands Prix and race tracks at 31 each, and shares the record for the most consecutive seasons with at least one victory with Schumacher at 15 years in succession. Hamilton's largest margin of victory was at the rain-affected 2008 British Grand Prix, a race in which he finished 68.577 seconds ahead of BMW Sauber's second-placed finisher Nick Heidfeld, while the narrowest margin was at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he won by 0.439 seconds over Rosberg as he slowed in an unsuccessful attempt to allow other drivers to catch and pass his teammate in one last attempt to win that year's title.

Lewis Hamilton commended Kevin Magnussen's "honest" explanation for the strong-armed defensive tactics that saw the Haas driver pick up a succession of penalties in the Miami GP Sprint. In an entertaining 19-lap race with no shortage of incidents, Magnussen and Hamilton became embroiled in a fierce battle for the final point which saw the Haas driver employ increasingly desperate measures to defend eighth place from his Mercedes rival. Magnussen, running one place behind Haas team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, picked up three separate time penalties from stewards totalling 30 seconds for running off track three times and staying ahead of Hamilton - with the second incident even seeing the cars make contact. Magnussen, who also picked up an additional five-second sanction for repeated track limits infringements, was later called to stewards on a charge of "alleged unsportsmanlike behaviour" ahead of Saturday evening's main qualifying hour at 9pm. Magnussen said he had no qualms about any of the penalties imposed on him and admitted he had to resort to what he accepted were "stupid tactics" in order to help Hulkenberg stay in seventh place ahead and not come under attack from either Hamilton or RB's Yuki Tsunoda into the closing laps.

Leclerc suggested his team-mate "went a bit over the limit" in his defence of fourth position as the Ferraris made contact in the closing laps of the Sprint, while Sainz said after Sunday's main race that both were disadvantaged when he was squeezed wide by the sister car through Turn One at the start. "I prefer not to comment but it's obviously quite clear that it cost us two positions so it didn't help either of us," said Sainz of an incident which saw the Ferraris drop behind George Russell's slower Mercedes.
