Ford Motor is postponing production of a new all-electric three-row SUV in Canada from 2025 to 2027 to wait for the market to mature and focusing on offering hybrid options across its North American lineup by 2030. The company aims to scale a profitable EV business while adapting to slower EV adoption rates and high production costs.
Ford Motor Co. will delay the release of new electric pickup trucks and a large electric SUV due to slowing U.S. electric vehicle sales growth. The electric pickup is postponed until 2026, and the large electric SUV is delayed until 2027. Meanwhile, U.S. electric vehicle sales growth slowed to 2.7% in the first quarter of the year. Ford expects losses for its electric vehicle unit to increase this year while hybrid sales have been rising.

Two generations of the EV model were sold in California, and to fleets elsewhere in the US, with a gap of almost ten years between them.The first generation was leased from 1997 to 2003, and at the lessees' request, many units were sold after the vehicle was discontinued. A total of 1,484 were leased and/or sold in California to meet the state's mandate for zero-emissions vehicle. A small number were sold or leased in fleet sales in other states. As of mid-2012, there were almost 500 vehicles still in use in California. Production of the second generation EV was limited to 2,600 units during a three-year run, with sales limited to California beginning in 2012. Production ended in September 2014. A total of 2,489 units of the second generation model were sold in California through April 2015.Toyota worked together with Tesla Motors and Panasonic to develop the second generation RAV4 EV, and the electric SUV was released in the United States in September 2012. California-based electric vehicle startup Fisker has reduced the prices of its 2023 Ocean electric SUV lineup by tens of thousands of dollars after a potential deal with another automaker fell through, leading to bankruptcy concerns. The price cuts include the 2023 Ocean Extreme trim from $61,499 to $37,499, the Ultra trim from $52,999 to $34,999, and the Sport trim from $38,999 to $24,999. Despite the cuts, industry analysts question the demand for EVs and predict potential bankruptcy for Fisker. The company faces challenges with negative reviews and software issues in its vehicles.
