Time Up For Shaheen Afridi? Babar Azam Asked To Take Pakistan Captaincy Again: Report | Cricket News

The Pakistan Cricket Board it appears has lost faith in the ability of Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the national side and feels former skipper Babar Azam is the best choice to captain the side once again. Babar had quit as Pakistan captain across all formats after his team failed to make it past the group stages during the ODI World Cup in India last year. While Masood was appointed captain in the Test format, Shaheen was made the T20I skipper. Sources in the PCB think-tank said the board had come to the conclusion that, with no viable option available, Babar was the best choice to lead the side again. "The funny part is that the powers that be appear to have lost faith in Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi's ability to lead the national side in Test and T20 formats with the change in the board's chairmanship," a source confided.

The Pakistan national cricket team (Urdu: پاکستان قومی کرکٹ ٹیم), has represented Pakistan in international cricket since 1952. It is controlled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the governing body for cricket in Pakistan, which is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pakistan compete in cricket tours and tournaments sanctioned by the PCB and other regional or international cricket bodies in Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20) formats. Pakistan are current ICC Champions Trophy holders.Pakistan were given test status in 1952 following a recommendation from India, but faced limited international success until the 1980s, when they became fixtures in the latter stages of tournaments. They won their first international trophy, the ICC World Cup, in 1992, and then won the Asia Cup in 2000. They saw increased success in the 21st century, winning the T20 World Cup in 2009, the Asia Cup in 2012, and ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Pakistan won the first Asian Test Championship in 1999, and was the fourth team to win the now-defunct ICC Test Championship in 2016. Pakistan have the second-highest win percentage in international T20 cricket (with a minimum of 150 games played), the fourth-highest win percentage in ODI cricket, and the fourth-best win-loss ratio in Test cricket (both with a minimum of 400 games played).Pakistan has been plagued by security concerns and domestic instability due to terrorism and the war on terror, restricting it as a venue for international cricket in the 21st century. Despite hosting the 1987 and 1996 World Cups (with the 1996 final played in Lahore), cricket was not played in the country after an attack against the Sri Lanka national team in 2009; Pakistan then played one-day games in the United Arab Emirates until 2016 and Test games in the UAE until 2019. International cricket was resumed in Pakistan from 2016, which coincided with the debut of the Pakistan Super League, following improvements in security and overall reduction in terrorism.

Babar Azam Steps Down as Pakistan Cricket Captain Following World Cup Exit

Babar Azam has resigned as Pakistan's cricket captain after his team's group-stage exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood have been named as the new captains for the T20 and Test formats respectively. Pakistan slid in the rankings after finishing fourth in the Asia Cup and fifth in the World Cup. Babar Azam is ranked as a top-five batsman in all three formats and is Pakistan's most successful captain in T20 Internationals, with 42 wins. Pakistan will face a tough tour of Australia starting in December.

Pakistan women's national cricket team (Wikipedia)

The Pakistan women's national cricket team (Urdu: پاکستان قومی خواتین کرکٹ ٹیم), also known as Green Shirts or Women in Green, represents Pakistan in international women's cricket. One of ten teams competing in the ICC Women's Championship (the highest level of international women's cricket), the team is organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).Pakistan made its One Day International (ODI) debut in early 1997 against New Zealand, and later in the year played in the 1997 World Cup in India. The team's inaugural Test match came against Sri Lanka in April 1998. In its early years, Pakistan was one of the least competitive of the top-level women's teams, and after its inaugural appearance in 1997, did not qualify for another World Cup until the 2009 event in Australia. However, the team has played in all eight editions of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup to date, and has also participated in the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games cricket tournament. The increase in terrorism as a result of the war on terror led to a stagnation of foreign teams touring Pakistan in the late 2000s and early 2010s. However, due to a decrease in terrorism in Pakistan over the past few years, as well as an increase in security, Bangladesh (twice), West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and South Africa have toured Pakistan since 2015.

Shaheen Afridi's 'Fake' Statement Put Out By PCB? Report Says Star Furious | Cricket News

There is a fresh controversy that is reportedly brewing between Shaheen Afridi and the Pakistan Cricket Board. And a statement put out by the cricket board on its website, on behalf of Afridi, is at the centre of it. In the said statement, Afridi, who was stripped off Pakistan's white ball captaincy, on Sunday proclaimed his full-fledged support to Babar Azam , who was handed back the leadership role ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. Afridi led Pakistan in a solitary T20I series against New Zealand before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to give back the T20I and ODI reins to Babar. The elegant batter had stepped down from captaincy after the team failed to reach the knockout stages of last year's 50-over World Cup.
