18-Year-Old Woman Fatally Shot on Delaware State University Campus

An 18-year-old woman, who was not a registered student at Delaware State University, was shot and killed on campus near Warren-Franklin Hall. She was found with a gunshot wound to her upper body, taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus, and pronounced dead. The university closed the campus, canceled events, and increased police patrols. Counseling services are available, and the case is being investigated as a homicide by Dover police and Delaware State University police.

On September 21, 2007, two 17-year-old Delaware State University freshmen were shot on campus. One died 32 days later on October 23, from critical injuries sustained in the attack. A freshman student from East Orange, New Jersey, Loyer D. Braden, was arrested and charged with murder; the charges were dismissed in May 2009 due to lack of evidence, as well as eyewitnesses saying that Braden was not the shooter.
