The Eras Tour (Wikipedia)

The Eras Tour is the ongoing sixth concert tour by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Consisting of 152 shows across five continents, the tour commenced on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, United States, and is set to conclude on December 8, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada. Each show spans over 3.5 hours, with a set list of 44 songs grouped into 10 distinct acts that portray the albums conceptually. It has received highly positive reviews from critics, emphasizing its concept, production, aesthetics and immersive ambience, as well as Swift's musicianship, vocals, stage presence and versatility. The tour recorded unprecedented demand, ticket sales, venue attendance and technical obstacles that have led to imposition of price regulation and anti-scalping laws. Ticketmaster, an official ticketing partner, was scrutinized for its controversially ineffective sales of the tour's tickets and an alleged monopoly in the concert industry. The tour bolstered economies, businesses, and tourism worldwide; dominated news cycles and social media engagement; and garnered tributes and accolades from various governments and organizations.Swift announced and released various works during the tour: the re-recorded albums Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and 1989 (Taylor's Version), the music videos for "Karma" and "I Can See You", editions of Midnights and her upcoming studio album The Tortured Poets Department (2024), and "Cruel Summer" as a single. Red (Taylor Swift album) (Wikipedia)

Red is the fourth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was released on October 22, 2012, by Big Machine Records. The album's title refers to the tumultuous, "red" emotions Swift experienced during the album's conception; its songs discuss the complex and conflicting feelings resulting from fading romance.Hoping to experiment with new sounds beyond her previous albums' country pop style, Swift engaged new producers Dann Huff, Max Martin, Shellback, Jeff Bhasker, Dan Wilson, Jacknife Lee, Butch Walker, alongside her long-time collaborator Nathan Chapman. The record combines styles of pop, country, and rock, with eclectic elements including arena rock, Britrock, dance-pop, and dubstep. Big Machine promoted Red as a country album but many critics disputed this categorization and deemed it a pop record. The album was supported with seven singles, including the US Billboard Hot 100 number-one lead single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and the Mainstream Top 40 number-one single "I Knew You Were Trouble".In the US, Red spent seven weeks atop the Billboard 200—making Swift the first female artist and the second act after the Beatles to have three consecutive albums each spend at least six weeks at number one—and was certified seven-times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It topped the charts and received multi-platinum certifications in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The album received nominations for Album of the Year at the 2013 Country Music Association Awards, and Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Swift promoted the album with the Red Tour (2013–2014), which grossed $150 million.When it was first released, music critics praised Swift's songwriting in Red but they were divided on the album's sonic range; praise was directed at the album's versatility but criticism targeted its inconsistency. Retrospectively, many critics regard Red one of Swift's best albums and a transitional record bridging her country roots to mainstream pop. It appeared in publications' lists of the best albums of the 2010s decade and ranked at number 99 in the 2023 revision of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Following a dispute regarding the ownership of Swift's back catalog, she re-recorded the album and released it as Red (Taylor's Version) on November 12, 2021.

Taylor Swift Reaches Billionaire Status in Music Career

Taylor Swift has reached billionaire status after 17 years in the music industry, climbing to fourteenth place on Forbes' 2024 billionaire list with a $1.1 billion fortune. Her wealth comes from earnings from her blockbuster Eras tour, the value of her music catalog, real estate portfolio, and re-recorded albums. Swift's Eras Tour made history as the first tour to cross the $1 billion mark, with $1.04 billion in earnings and 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates. Additionally, she generated approximately $200 million in merch sales during the tour.

Fearless (Taylor Swift album) (Wikipedia)

Fearless is the second studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Under Big Machine Records imprint, it was released in the U.S. and Canada on November 11, 2008, and elsewhere on March 9, 2009. Written predominantly by Swift while she was promoting her 2006 self-titled debut album in 2007–2008, Fearless features additional songwriting credits from Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, Colbie Caillat, and John Rich. Swift wrote seven of the standard edition's 13 tracks by herself and, in her debut as a record producer, co-produced the album with Nathan Chapman.Fearless is a country pop album whose composition incorporates country-associated instruments such as banjos, fiddles, mandolins, and acoustic guitars, that intertwine with dynamic electric guitars and strings. Music critics found the album to feature a crossover appeal brought by the influences of different styles of pop, folk, and rock. Inspired by Swift's teenage feelings, the lyrics explore themes of romance, heartache, and aspirations. The album's title refers to the overarching theme of all of its tracks, as they altogether depict Swift's courage to embrace the challenges of love. After the release of Fearless, Swift embarked on the Fearless Tour, which ran from April 2009 to July 2010. The album was supported by five singles, including "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", which performed well and set records on both country and pop radio. In the U.S., Fearless spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It peaked in the top five of albums charts and received multi-platinum certifications in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the U.K., and has sold 12 million copies worldwide.Music critics lauded Swift's songwriting for offering radio-friendly tunes and an emotional engagement that appealed to not only teenagers but also a broad audience, although some deemed the production formulaic. The most-awarded country album of all time, Fearless won Album of the Year at both the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2009, and it won Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards in 2010. The album featured on Rolling Stone's 2022 list of the 100 Greatest Country Albums of All Time. Following the 2019 dispute regarding the ownership of Swift's back catalog, she released a re-recording, Fearless (Taylor's Version), on April 9, 2021.

Folklore (Taylor Swift album) (Wikipedia)

Folklore (stylized in all lowercase) is the eighth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was a surprise album, released on July 24, 2020, via Republic Records. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, Swift canceled the concert tour for her seventh studio album Lover (2019). She conceived Folklore during quarantine as "a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness", working with producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff virtually; Dessner and Antonoff operated from recording studios in the Hudson Valley and New York City, respectively, while Swift recorded her vocals in a home studio at her Los Angeles residence.Departing from the mainly upbeat pop production of its predecessors, Folklore consists of mellow ballads driven by piano, guitars, strings, and muted percussions, pursuing indie folk, alternative rock, and electro-acoustic styles. Influenced by the isolation of quarantine, Swift explores themes of escapism, empathy, nostalgia and romanticism in the album, using a set of characters, fictional narratives, and story arcs, in contrast to the autobiographical tone of her previous projects. The title was inspired by the lasting legacy of folk songs, whereas its visual aesthetic reflects cottagecore.Upon release, Folklore topped the charts in various countries and is certified platinum or higher in Australia, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, it was Swift's seventh number-one album and spent eight weeks atop the US Billboard 200, and it became the best-selling album of 2020. Three of its tracks, "Cardigan", "The 1", and "Exile" featuring Bon Iver, reached the top 10 on music charts in eight countries, with the former becoming Swift's sixth number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100.Folklore received widespread critical acclaim that centered on its emotional weight, poetic lyricism, and relaxed pace. Critics found its introspective essence timely for the pandemic and regarded its sound a bold reinvention of Swift's artistry. The album was featured on numerous 2020 year-end rankings and nominated for several awards, and Rolling Stone included it in their 2023 revision of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It won Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, making Swift the first woman in history to win the honor three times. She discussed Folklore and performed it live in the Disney+ concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, premiering on November 25, 2020, and released Folklore's sequel record, Evermore (2020), two weeks later. Several artists cite Folklore as a source of inspiration.

Impact of the Eras Tour (Wikipedia)

Publications and critics have analyzed the cultural, economic and sociopolitical influence of the Eras Tour, the 2023–2024 concert tour by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and the highest-grossing tour in history. Driven by a fan frenzy called Swiftmania, the tour's impact is considered an outcome of Swift's wider influence on the 21st-century popular culture. Pollstar called the tour "The Greatest Show on Earth".The Eras Tour, as Swift's first tour after the COVID-19 lockdowns, caused an economic demand shock fueled by the public's increased affinity for entertainment. It recorded unprecedented ticket sale registrations across the globe, including a virtual queue of over 22 million customers for the Singapore tickets. The first sale in the United States crashed controversially, drawing censure from bipartisan lawmakers, who proposed implementation of price regulation and anti-scalping laws at state and federal levels. Legal scholar William Kovacic called it the "Taylor Swift policy adjustment". Price gouging due to the tour was highlighted in the national legislatures of Brazil, Ireland, and the UK.Characterized by trickle-down and multiplier effects, elevated commercial activity and economy were reported in cities visited by the tour, which boosted local businesses, the hospitality industry, clothing sales, public transport revenues, and tourism. Fortune estimated the tour's net consumer spending to be $4.6 billion in the US. Cities such as Glendale, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and Santa Clara renamed themselves to honor Swift; a number of tourist attractions, including the Center Gai, Christ the Redeemer, Space Needle, Marina Bay Sands and Willis Tower, paid tributes and hosted events and exhibitions. Politicians such as Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and Chilean president Gabriel Boric petitioned Swift to tour their countries. Government executives in Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and some states of Australia also expressed disappointment at the Eras Tour skipping their venues.Journalists dubbed Swift the cultural highlight of 2023. Beyond sold-out stadiums, the Eras Tour attracted large crowds of ticketless spectators tailgating outside the venues, such as over 60,000 people in Philadelphia, and was a ubiquitous subject in news cycles, social media content, and press coverage. On record charts, Swift's discography experienced surges in album sales and streams; she became the first living artist to have seven albums in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 and the first to chart six albums in the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart. Her 2019 song "Cruel Summer" achieved a newfound popularity and became one of her most successful singles. The accompanying concert film of the tour, which became the highest-grossing concert film of all time, featured an atypical film distribution strategy that bypassed major film studios to directly partner with movie theaters and caused a number of other films to shift their release dates. Time named Swift the Person of the Year, making her the first and only person in the arts to achieve the honor.

Taylor Swift masters dispute (Wikipedia)

On June 30, 2019, the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift came in dispute with her former record label, Big Machine Records, its founder Scott Borchetta, and its new owner Scooter Braun, over the ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums. It was a highly publicized dispute drawing widespread media coverage and led Swift to release the re-recorded albums—Fearless (Taylor's Version), Red (Taylor's Version), Speak Now (Taylor's Version), and 1989 (Taylor's Version)—from 2021 through 2023 to gain complete ownership of her music. In November 2018, Swift signed a record deal with Republic Records after her Big Machine contract expired. Mainstream media reported in June 2019 that Braun purchased Big Machine from Borchetta for $330 million, funded by various private equity firms. Braun had become the owner of all of the masters, music videos, and artworks copyrighted by Big Machine, including those of Swift's first six studio albums. In response, Swift stated she had tried to purchase the masters but Big Machine had offered unfavorable conditions, and she knew the label would sell them to someone else but did not expect Braun as the buyer, recalling him being an "incessant, manipulative bully". Borchetta claimed that Swift declined an opportunity to purchase the masters.Consequently, Big Machine and Swift were embroiled in a series of disagreements leading to further friction; Swift alleged that the label blocked her from performing her songs at the 2019 American Music Awards and using them in her documentary Miss Americana (2020), while Big Machine released Live from Clear Channel Stripped 2008 (2020), an unreleased work by Swift, without her approval. Swift announced she would re-record the six albums and own the new masters herself. In October 2020, Braun sold the old masters to the Disney family's investment firm, Shamrock Holdings, for $405 million under the condition that he keeps profiting from the masters. Swift expressed her disapproval again, rejected Shamrock's offer for an equity partnership, and released the re-recorded albums via Republic, to critical and commercial success, breaking multiple sales, streaming, and chart records.Various musicians, journalists, politicians, and scholars supported Swift's stance, prompting a discourse on artists' rights, intellectual property, private equity, and ethics in the music industry. Publications described her response and move to re-record as influential measures, encouraging new artists to negotiate for greater ownership of their music. iHeartRadio, the largest radio network in the United States, proclaimed it will replace the older versions in its airplay with Swift's re-recorded tracks. Billboard named Swift the Greatest Pop Star of 2021 for the successful and unprecedented outcomes of her re-recording venture. Braun has since expressed regret over purchasing Swift's masters and Big Machine at large, and subsequently sold his entire holding company, Ithaca, to Hybe Corporation. As part of the sale, Braun became Hybe America's CEO and joined Hybe's board of directors.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Wikipedia)

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a 2023 American concert film produced by the singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Directed by Sam Wrench, the film documents The Eras Tour, Swift's 2023–2024 concert tour. Swift struck an unprecedented distribution agreement with AMC Theatres and Cinemark Theatres for the film after negotiations with the major film studios fell through.Filming took place in August 2023 at three shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, with a budget of $10–20 million, with SAG-AFTRA permitting production to proceed amidst its 2023 strike. Swift announced The Eras Tour later that month, catching studios off guard and causing the release dates of several films that had been set for release on or near October 13 to be moved. The unconventional release strategy was a topic of media discourse; many journalists and industry personnel praised Swift's move to bypass the studios to directly partner with theaters and opined that the move defies the traditional producer–distributor–exhibitor model of releasing films. The film premiered at The Grove in Los Angeles on October 11, 2023, and was released to theaters worldwide on October 13. It was met with significant ticket demand, amassing a record $37 million on its first day of pre-sales in the U.S. and over $100 million in total global pre-sales. The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert film of all-time, earning $261.6 million worldwide. It received acclaim from critics, most of whom praised the direction, spectacle, energy, and Swift's artistry and showmanship.

Is this the end of Kim and Taylor's feud?

This week pop star Sabrina Carpenter - known for her tongue-in-cheek innuendo lyrics - had fans wowed as she posed up a storm in sultry snaps for a SKIMS campaign. But many were also baffled by the 24-year-old - who has been the supporting act for Taylor Swift's Eras tour - making the choice to collaborate with Kim Kardashian 's brand after the reality star's notorious feud with the Midnights songstress. And Sabrina isn't the only one in Taylor's celebrated girl-squad to have modelled for the brand recently. Earlier this year, Lana Del Rey - who Taylor emotionally praised in her Grammy acceptance speech in February - teamed up with SKIMS for a Valentine's Day campaign. Elsewhere in November, Brittany Mahomes, known for her huddled up and enthusiastic appearances alongside the singer at Kansas City Chiefs games, also starred in a holiday-themed photoshoot for the shapewear company.
