IRS extends tax deadlines for some US taxpayers impacted by natural disasters

Published: 15 April 2024 at 07:15

Finance & Economics

While most US taxpayers have a deadline of April 15 to file their 2023 income taxes, those in regions declared natural disaster areas by FEMA may receive extensions, such as until June 17, 2024, to file federal tax returns due to severe storms and other disasters. Some states like Maine and Massachusetts have a deadline of April 17, 2024, due to Patriot's Day and Emancipation Day. Taxpayers in affected areas can also request a further extension until October 15, 2024, although taxes owed are due at the initial deadline.
