Apple announces that owners of select iPhone models can repair their devices with used genuine parts without facing compatibility issues. Parts pairing for used components will no longer trigger notifications, and calibration will occur on the device post-installation. The Self Service Repair Store will no longer require device serial numbers for ordering most parts. Activation Lock will extend to iPhone parts to restrict calibration if obtained from a device with Activation Lock or Lost Mode enabled, preventing theft.
Learn how to turn off Find My iPhone when taking the device for repair or selling it to someone else to disable location tracking and Activation Lock. Remember to disable Find My on your Mac if you're deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem. Apple recommends disabling Find My if sending your iPhone for service at the Genius Bar or selling it to recover some cash.
