February 2024 marked the ninth consecutive month of historic high temperatures globally, with temperatures 1.77C warmer than the pre-industrial era. The period from February 2023 to January 2024 was the first time Earth experienced 12 straight months of temperatures 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels. Climate change, exacerbated by the El Nino weather phenomenon, has led to extreme weather events worldwide.
