American Airlines Relaxes Pet Policy Allowing Pets and Full-Size Carry-On Bags in Cabin

Published: 29 March 2024 at 21:18

American Airlines has updated its pet policy to allow passengers to bring their pets and a full-size carry-on bag into the cabin, previously restricted to a small item. This change aims to address previous frustrations of pet owners who felt the old policy was unfair, as they were already paying a pet fee. The updated policy is seen as a way to discourage travelers from falsely claiming their pets as service animals to fly for free. The rule change took effect recently, with the airline spokesperson citing the revised regulations.

American Airlines Raises Checked Bag Fees and Encourages Direct Ticket Purchases

American Airlines is increasing the cost of checking bags on domestic flights from $30 to $35 online and $40 at the airport, with second bag fees rising from $40 to $45. Bag fees for short international flights have also been raised. Customers must now buy tickets directly from the airline to earn frequent-flyer points. Elite status holders, premium ticket buyers, and American credit card users may still get free checked bags. The changes are part of a shift towards direct ticket sales and away from traditional travel agents.
