American Journalist Evan Gershkovich\'s Detention Extended in Russia on Espionage Charges

Published: 26 March 2024 at 11:11

Politics

American journalist Evan Gershkovich, working for The Wall Street Journal, has been detained in Russia since March 2023 under alleged espionage charges, with his custody extended until at least June 30. The U.S. denounces the charges as baseless, with Gershkovich and his employer denying the allegations. U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy attended the court hearing and reiterated the claims of Evan being wrongfully detained. The case is seen as using American citizens as pawns for political purposes.
