Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong resigned after a little over a year in office amidst an intense anti-corruption campaign affecting the Communist Party. His resignation was approved by the party\'s Central Committee citing violations that tarnished the party\'s reputation. Thuong, 54, took office in March 2023, succeeding Nguyen Xuan Phuc who resigned due to corruption scandals. The presidency in Vietnam is mainly ceremonial and holds the third position in the country\'s political hierarchy.
