Hong Kong Court Sentences 12 Protesters to Jail for Storming Legislature During 2019 Pro-Democracy Protests

A Hong Kong court has sentenced 12 individuals, including actor Gregory Wong, to jail terms ranging from over four years to nearly seven years for storming the city\'s legislature during the 2019 pro-democracy protests. The protesters broke into the Legislative Council building in July 2019 amid public anger over an extradition bill. The defendants, some activists and a former student union president, were sentenced after being found guilty of rioting. Two former reporters charged with entering the chamber were fined. The incident was described as a serious blow to the city\'s rule of law by the judge.
