Russian counter-terrorism operation in Belgorod region against Ukrainian militants

Published: 12 March 2024 at 11:13

Politics

Fighters described as \"saboteurs\" crossed from Ukraine into Belgorod region, with Russia claiming to have surrounded and killed over 70 insurgents, pushing the rest back into Ukraine. The fighters are said to be from anti-Kremlin paramilitaries Liberty of Russia Legion and Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). RDK, led by Denis Kapustin, advocates for a mono-ethnic Russian state and has been linked to neo-Nazi groups. The group aims to incite rebellion against the Russian government and has engaged in cross-border raids, denying allegations of taking hostages.
