Florida settlement allows discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms

Politics

A settlement reached in Florida clarifies that students and teachers can freely discuss sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms as long as it\'s not part of instruction, addressing confusion caused by a previous law. The settlement also emphasizes that LGBTQ discussions are allowed, anti-bullying rules based on sexual orientation and gender identity are permitted, and Gay-Straight Alliance groups are not prohibited. Other states have similar laws, with Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and North Carolina having versions of the law. The Florida Board of Education will issue instructions to affirm these provisions.
