The Chicago Cubs signed free agent Cody Bellinger to a three-year, $80 million contract with opt-outs after the first two years. Bellinger, a former NL MVP in 2019, will earn $30 million in each of the first two seasons and $20 million in the final year. His agent, Scott Boras, sought a deal well over $200 million initially but settled for this contract. Bellinger, known for a bounce-back season in 2023, had been dealing with injury issues, including a lingering shoulder injury from the 2020 postseason.
