US defence secretary Lloyd Austin has acknowledged that he made a mistake by not informing President Biden and the public about his prostate cancer diagnosis. He stated that he takes full responsibility for the oversight and admitted that he should have disclosed the diagnosis to the president. Austin underwent surgery on 22 December and experienced complications that led to his admission to intensive care on 1 January. The delay in disclosing his condition prompted internal investigations into the notification processes of the Department of Defense.
