Malaysia has reduced the 12-year prison sentence of former Prime Minister Najib Razak for corruption to six years. Najib was convicted in 2020 for money laundering, abuse of power, and other charges related to the 1MDB scandal. If Najib fails to pay a fine of 50 million ringgit ($10.6 million) before his release date of August 23, 2028, his sentence will be extended by a year. The 1MDB fund, created during Najib\'s tenure as prime minister, was allegedly used as a slush fund by high-ranking officials, including Najib.
