Tech companies sign pact to prevent AI from disrupting democratic elections

Published: 16 February 2024 at 20:32

Technology

Major technology companies, including Adobe, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and TikTok, have signed a pact to adopt \'reasonable precautions\' to prevent artificial intelligence tools, such as deepfakes, from disrupting democratic elections. The voluntary framework aims to respond to AI-generated deepfakes that deceive and trick voters. The accord targets increasingly realistic AI-generated images, audio, and video that alter the appearance, voice, or actions of political candidates and election officials or provide false information to voters. Rather than banning or removing deepfakes, the companies will focus on detecting and labeling deceptive AI content and sharing best practices.
