North Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells near two South Korean islands, prompting evacuation orders for residents. The military escalation is one of the most serious between the two Koreas since 2010. The firing followed repeated warnings from North Korea that it was prepared for war against South Korea and its US ally. South Koreas defense ministry warned that the actions threatened peace and stated that North Korea bears full responsibility for the escalating crisis. The South Korean military is closely monitoring the situation and will respond accordingly.
