Thai court orders popular political party Move Forward to end campaign to amend royal defamation law

Politics

The Constitutional Court in Thailand has ruled that the progressive Move Forward Party, the country\'s most popular political party, violated the constitution by campaigning to amend the lese majeste law, which prohibits criticism of the monarchy. The court\'s ruling is seen as a blow to the country\'s reform movement and opens the door for further prosecutions and potential dissolution of the party. The lese majeste law, known as Section 112, can result in a maximum 15-year prison sentence and has been criticized for stifling free speech in Thailand.
