Former US President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay $83m ($18.3m in compensation and $65m in punitive damages) in a defamation case brought by E Jean Carroll, who accused him of sexual assault. Trump has called the verdict \'absolutely ridiculous\' and plans to appeal. This is the second case in which Trump has been found liable for defaming Carroll, with the first case resulting in a $5m payout. Carroll claimed that Trump\'s comments destroyed her reputation as a journalist and subjected her to years of attacks and death threats.
