Microsoft announces major layoffs in its gaming division, cutting around 1,900 workers from Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax teams

Microsoft is laying off approximately 1,900 workers from its gaming division, including Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax teams. This brings the total number of video game layoffs in 2024 to around 6,000. The majority of the cuts are within Activision Blizzard, three months after Microsoft\'s acquisition of the publisher. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stated that the company is working on aligning its strategy and execution plan with a sustainable cost structure. Severance benefits will be provided to the affected employees.
