The US military carried out strikes on Iran-backed targets in Iraq, retaliating against a series of Iranian-backed attacks against the US in the region. The strikes targeted three facilities used by the Kataib Hezbollah militia group and other Iran-affiliated groups, including their headquarters, storage, and training locations for rocket and missile capabilities. This action was taken in response to escalatory attacks against US and coalition personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-sponsored militias. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that the US is prepared to take further measures to protect its people and facilities.
