A total of 21 Israeli soldiers were killed in an attack in central Gaza, marking the largest single loss of life for the military since the war began. The soldiers were preparing explosives to demolish two buildings when a militant fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a tank nearby, setting off the explosion prematurely and causing the buildings to collapse on the soldiers. The offensive has caused widespread destruction, displaced 85% of Gazas population, and left over 25,000 Palestinians dead, according to health officials in the Hamas-run territory. Over 62,000 Palestinians have been injured due to Israeli strikes.
