Israels Supreme Court has ruled against a key component of the governments controversial legal overhaul, which sought to challenge the powers of the judiciary. The amendment, passed in July, aimed to scrap the reasonableness clause used by the court to overturn unconstitutional government decisions. The court stated that this amendment caused severe damage to the democratic nature of Israel. The legal reform package proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was met with mass protests, with critics warning that it could lead to authoritarian rule and be used to protect Netanyahu from potential convictions.
