Published: 14 January 2024 at 10:56

Science

A volcano has erupted in southwestern Iceland, sending lava flowing towards the town of Grindavik, which had to be evacuated. Defensive walls constructed around the volcano have been breached and lava is moving towards the town. No lives are in danger, but infrastructure may be threatened. This is the fifth eruption in the Reykjanes peninsula since 2021.
