The court stated that this amendment caused severe damage to the democratic nature of Israel. The legal reform package proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was met with mass protests, with critics warning that it could lead to authoritarian rule and be used to protect Netanyahu from potential convictions.
