Massive waves and coastal flooding have been causing widespread damage and dangerous conditions along the California coast for the past three days. The unusually large surf, reaching heights of 20 to 40 feet, has led to beach closures, water rescues, and damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles. The flooding has also blocked first responders paths and caused damage to a local hotel. While the hazards will lessen for Northern Californians on Saturday, coastal areas of central and Southern California will continue to be battered by extreme surf. Officials are urging people to stay away from the water and beaches due to potentially life-threatening conditions.
