Storm Gerrit has caused major disruption to the UK transport network as heavy rain and winds of up to 80mph battered roads and train lines. A major incident was declared in Greater Manchester due to a localised tornado that resulted in significant damage to properties in Stalybridge. No injuries have been reported, but residents have been forced to leave their homes and are asked not to return until their homes are assessed by structural engineers. Thousands of people remain without power, and flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency.
